We are proud to present 17 rising 2 yr old purebred Simmental Bulls for sale from our herd of 65 registered purebred Simmental cows.
Sadly in the 2013 calving year the majority of Y-arta bred calves were heifers so we only have 2 sons of his in this sale. We do have 3 Warwick sons and 2 groups of bulls which are the result of embryo transplanting from two of our best cows.

The first group includes 3 full brothers by Monreid Yardstick out of our best Rupert cow Glenanthony Whitney AW20. The second group includes 4 full brothers out of our top Guiness cow Glenanthony Marina by a “blast from the past” our very successful bull Glenanthony Hyatt by Tokoweka Rascallian.
All of these seven bulls display the power and excellent muscularity that Glenanthony Simmentals have been so well known for.
The Summer drought took its toll on weaner weights in commercial cow herds throughout the East Coast especially around Wairoa. Although weaners came forward lighter in weight, prices held up, especially at Fairs later in the Autumn.

Some Simmental cross Steers from Tutira at an average live weight of 355kg topped the Exotic Weaner Fair at Stortford Lodge making $820. Lesser Simmental cross steers at a later sale topped the $900 mark and incalf Simmental cows at the large cow fair on the 8th April 2015 sold for over $1400 or $2.30kg.

There was no NZ Royal Show this year and with the continued cancellation of the “Best of Beef” Show in Feilding we were pleased to be able to support Simon Collins and Phil Barnett in their successful resurrection of the Dannevirke A&P Show’s Beef Section. This took the form of a one day All-Breeds show and was well supported by Beef Breeders as far away as Taranaki. Glenanthony did not in any way dominate the show. Sue Wylie did very well with her Simmental Cow and Calf winning both the Senior cow and bull calf classes. The Clarke family from the Manawatu brought a small team of Murray Greys and won the Yearling Heifer and Heifer Calf class. It was left to Glenanthony to win the Two year old cow and calf class, the yearling bull and the Senior Bull classes. Glenanthony Yale won the Senior Bull class over Ratalea Anchor and Glenanthony Y-arta and went on to win the Meat & Wool Cup.

Through Royal Decree from Buckingham Palace the Auckland Easter Show regained it’s Royal Status. Glenanthony Stud along with Sue Wylie took 25 Simmental Cattle to Auckland and had a very successful show. The Simmental judging was noted for the large number of stock entered in each class from these 2 Studs, 5 Heifer calves, 6 bull calves, 3 yearling heifers and 3 yearling bulls as well as the 5 cows and calves and 3 senior bulls made for a great spectacle and a reasonable task for the judge John Hammond who we thank whole heartedly for giving up his Easter weekend to travel to Auckland to Judge us.
The large number of 11 Interbreed classes is a feature of the Auckland Easter Show.
Sue Wylie’s cow and calf won the performance cow class on the first afternoon and Glenanthony followed this up with great success with the progeny class that followed placing 1st, 3rd and 4th. Glenathony Y-arta, looking his very best had a great show. He won Supreme Champion Simmental on the first day and dominated the Interbreed classes being placed 1st in the progeny class, senior bull, pair of two, group of three and the Meat & Wool Cup for the 2nd year in a row.

As well as our success at Auckland another highlight for Glenanthony was this years Future Beef weekend. Sue Wylie entered a lovely heavy weight Simmental Steer that was judged overall champion on the hoof. Sadly the steer’s carcass was eliminated from the competition because of a high pH reading which put her out of contention for the overall Hoof & Hooks Competition which was won by Peter McWilliam’s Angus Steer which was judged champion carcass on the hooks.

The success of our girls from the Glenanthony show team continued with Ella Tweedy winning the Intermediate Ambassador Title and Amy Hoogenboom winning the coveted Senior Ambassador Award for the overall Future Beef Champion. The girls could not have done better, they were the stars of the show and we are very proud of them. We are also proud of Amy for gaining entry into the NZ Veterinary School this year. Congratulations well done. No easy task to fit the Future Beef weekend into her busy study schedule.

The Future Beef results were topped off by Amy leading Glananthony Coco Pop to win the Future Beef Champion Beef Heifer of the weekend and the old man himself leading his yearling heifer Glenanthony Cameo to win the Queen of Hearts Champion Heifer Competition on Monday afternoon after which she was sold for the top price of the Queen of Hearts sale. The message this sent to all young people looking for a career in Beef Cattle Showing was not to give up because you can still beat the best of them at 70 years of age.

A young sire who has it all; polledness, soundness,, a body to die for, easy calving and good libido.

MONREID YARDSTICK A06001 (IMP AUS) AUAPAPY001

Now nine years of age Yardstck has maintained his soundness and excellent conformation. What a thrill to see his progeny performing with distinction on farm and in the public arena. He has produced many notable sires including Tundra and Telstar (2006), Utah (2007) and Westerle, Waterford and Warwick (2008). Warwick has performed very well for the Timperley family of Opawa inland from Timaru. For them Warwick has sired two all-breed winning yearlings and was the sire of their 2013 sale bulls. Note that Yardstick is a four way trait leader on breed plan.

HAYLANDS RUPERT AR17 1562AR0017

Rupert grew out to be an impressive sire with a high libido and excellent carcass qualities. He has passed on his length, his exceptional thickness through the loin and his depth of muscling to his progeny. The highlight of this year was the success of his son Zodiac in winning the Champion of Champions Award at the 2013 Beef Expo. The Rupert/Yardsick cross has produced some outstanding cattle typified by this year's Beef Expo entries. Rupert is now a trait leader for 400 and 600 day weight.
